Persona or Ego

Today, many people tend to wear an illusory mask in public for social, aiming to build a new identity through dressing, countenance, behaviours, etc.

At my age, people surrounding me with persona are indispensable. Through observing them, I use photography and video in this project to reflect how contemporary people explore the boundary between “persona and true ego” endlessly.

Ego or Not

A girl wakes up in the dim light, she looks at herself in the mirror, squeezes out a smile stiffly, and starts a day’s mechanical life. The outside world is chaotic and unbearable. Day after day, when the girl comes home, she finds a hollow eye looking at her on the sofa. In the eye contact, the expression on the girl’s face gradually  disappears. One day, she found herface become a mask and touched her face, which was integrated with the mask in fear.

The girl’s life began to be tasteless. Even though the comedy was funny, she only lived a deadpan life with her masked ego. There are two persons in life, one is her persona wearing a mask, and the other is her ego under a mask. The girl wearing the mask for a long time. Even if she wants to break free from the bondage, she can’t take it off. Finally, the ego disappeared into this world with the persona.

The external symbol and internal self-consciousness can

no longer get rid of the masks and lose their true self too.
